The Philosophies of Men

The philosophies of men prevail in education, science, religion, politics and government often prominently in society and affect the lives of almost all individuals as they seek knowledge and experience here in mortality.  These philosophies as a source of information is based on the opinion or theory of an individual or a group of people. It is transitory, unreliable and should be seen as suspect when weighing a source of the information until it has been proven to be accurate. One of the challenges of seeking and finding correct information is gauging the source. By what right or authority does a person speak to represent them self or others or even God as some suppose they do?  All with an opinion may express it but that is all it is. What is the difference between the philosophies of men and the word of God?   The opinions and philosophies of men have been present in the world imaginably since it began. In politics, philosophy and religion people have rai...

The Miracle of the Earth

The knowledge of science, theology and philosophy can blend together to answer many of life's questions.  Together they often prompt thoughts and ideas that give perspective to the real world and the truths we don't see directly or don't look at on a daily basis. The reality of our existence in the universe is really an amazing thing to ponder.  If we will understand that divine revelation also exists to help us understand the existence of all these things we will stand even more amazed. Looking at some simple scientific facts of daily life of where we are and we are doing as a planet is fascinating.   We are traveling around the sun at approximately 67,000 miles per hour. Our rotational speed is around 600 miles per hour. The sun and its solar system is orbiting the galaxy at 515 thousand miles per hour.  The scientists also tell us that the whole galaxy that we are part of is moving through space and won't collide with another galaxy for 5 billion ye...

What Happened in the Garden of Eden?

What happened in the Garden of Eden? Was the fall necessary or not? There are really only two conclusions to consider regarding the Fall of Adam. Either God wanted it to happen or he didn't.   Was this the beginning of sin and evil or a means to introduce mortality? The existence of evil and suffering in our world has been a paradox to theologians and believers in relation to God's goodness. To reconcile these apparent contradictions requires an understanding of what the war in heaven was about and the reason for the fall. Job stated: What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? Job 2:10 Where did this opposition between good and evil begin?  What was the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and why was it placed there? Is our life here on earth an existence forced upon us, causing all to suffer to some degree, or is it a place of freedom where we experience the consequences of interacting free will and individual c...

Creation and the Mysteries of Godliness

Ephesians 3:9  A bird's eye view of the earth from the air helps us see how small we really are.  Moving to the view from space we see the earth and can't see the people.  Moving to an even greater distance if only in our mind, we can go so far that the earth disappears in a fog of white light.   Powerful telescopes now show us images of what can only be an infinite cosmos.  Looking into the heavens we gain a some perspective of where we are in the vast expanse of the heavens, a cosmological speck of planetary insignificance. To the reasoning soul this contemplation often prompts the questions of where we came from and where we will go after death. Our present life, this reality of today is what philosophers have contended with for millennia.  Why are we here?  Sources of religious knowledge in classical theism have been fixed and the canonization of the known scriptural documents have been closed without really answering these questions...

What is Eternal Life?

1 Corinthians 2:9 But as it is written,  Eye  hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath  prepared  for them that love him.    10 But God hath  revealed  them unto us by his  Spirit :for the  Spirit   searcheth  all things, yea, the deep things of God. Eternal life is the desire of every Christian and most human beings probably entertain some hope of such a life.  A life without the troubles we associate with mortality.   Atheists on the other hand dismiss anything they can't put their eyes or hands on and choose not to believe in that which they don't physically see.    This philosophy is in reality just a choice not to believe and is at its core based on a fallacy.  The declaration to say their is no God is to say that they have somehow reached into the deepest corners of space and time to say there is no one else. ...

The Role of Prophets and the Restoration of all Things

There are thousands of denominations in the Christian community today.  Why is this so?  After all there is only one Bible and one Savior and one God the Father that we worship.  The Bible states there should be one Lord, one faith and one baptism. The simple self evident truth is that Jesus established a church, men changed it, then reformers changed it again and now it keeps changing.  While professing the Bible as the common book of scripture there are still prof ound misunderstandings and disagreements as scholars and theologians  continue to debate its content and meaning. The reason we have a Bible is because God anciently called prophets to lead his people. Revelation was on the earth through authorized servants that spoke for God. Even though the people did not always follow them they were there as a constant voice. The call to ancient Israel was to stay true, to not stray from the covenants God had made with them and they with God.   The ...

Moral Agency, Free Will--The Existence of Evil and Suffering

Posted by Charles Brown What is the difference between having an individual will, or free will as it is known and being able to express that will? How can submitting one's will, even consecrating our life to God in complete surrender constitute the ultimate victory? I have had many discussions with my Christian friends that love God and believe in the mercy of Jesus Christ. I appreciate very much their testimonies of faith. In those discussions, I find the similarities of what I believe as coming from God very similar to theirs. I have found however a disconnect between what they express and the foundational teachings of the theologian/scholars that define basic doctrines of modern and traditional Christendom. The traditional views held by orthodox Bible scholars and Christian philosopher/theologians is that man's soul is created at his birth. There was no prior existence of your soul or mine until that day that we call our birthday. No man or woman had been cre...
