The Futile State of Contentious Living

We live in a world of opposition.  Such is the nature of the knowledge of good and evil. Without it there is no freedom, there is no choice.  This is what gives us the chance to determine who we will be, what we will pursue and eventually become.  Through forces more powerful than our own whims we will one day be held accountable for this freedom. What eternal destiny awaits us?

I sometimes think of extreme examples as I sit and ponder about the ridiculousness of the contentions that exist in the world. Somehow we need to become aware of the position in space that we occupy and our insignificance as occupants of planet earth. What situation can demonstrate the silliness of not trying to get along as human beings?  Why have some opposed the importance of principles that create and nurture the life forces of our world?

Next time you go to the beach, try to imagine a ping pong ball in the ocean floating away from you with the current. Now suppose that it is inhabited by a colony of germs that started out as just two germs.  The ball is now covered by billions of germs and yet they hardly cover its surface. Somehow it is protected from the harshness of its lonely existence.

It is hard to imagine this as the ocean would seem to sweep everything off of the ball. How fast we are traveling through space?  The only thing that keeps us from getting sucked off is an atmospheric force field that keeps the vacuum of space from engulfing us as an invisible power pulls us along.

The rotation of the earth is about 1000 miles an hour at the equator. Our orbiting speed around the sun is 67,000 miles an hour. We are surrounded by a freezing vacuum. Isn’t this more hostile than the ocean? Yet here we are oblivious to our hopeless state and some thinking it is without divine cause or future salvation.

The earth is infinitesimally smaller in the cosmos than a ping pong ball is to the ocean. If a ping pong ball is too small for your imagination, try a basketball.

Imagine that the germs manage to civilize themselves and create an economy and nations of varying strains of germs. They cultivate a system of governments and some even become wealthy as they populate their habitat.

In considering this can we answer the question as to how rich is the richest germ on the ball?  How famous is the most famous germ? How powerful is the most powerful politician? How tall is the tallest, how strong is the strongest, how beautiful is the most beautiful of all the germs?

The thing about these germs is that they don’t live for 100 years. They only live 100 seconds. Things progress very quickly. Then they die and fall off into an endless ocean.

Where do humans go when they die? Does the energy of our cosmic presence simply evaporate? Or is there another set of principles that takes over when we die?

Is there room in space where everyone could have their own planet or star or their own solar system as they exit this planet? How many galaxies with billions of stars have astronomers with their most powerful telescopes calculated to exist? Significantly more than the cumulative number of humans in 6000 years of existence and their view is extremely limited.

The eternities are surely guarded by an entrance code, one the eliminates contention and hate.  How this is done has been revealed.  It is on the earth and available to those that would seek it.  Those that are stuck in their ways may never find it because they refuse to look.

Seeking Eternal Truth

There is birth and there is death and in between is this thing we call life. Do we at some point begin to realize that mortality is just a subset of eternity? What knowledge do we need to possess to obtain any kind of eternal salvation?  What is salvation in the eternal sense? Are we eternal beings in some way or just temporarily animated by the makeup of our organic chemistry?  Did it begin at birth and does it end at death?  These are timeless questions so far as mankind is concerned.  The reality is that we each have a mere century or less in which to carry out life's intended purpose.  Why are we here on earth?  Why is there opposition and suffering as well as happiness?  Does anyone including atheists truly resolve themselves to believe that life has no eternal purpose, that the life force that brought them into existence is random? Answers to these questions can only be found in one way that is not speculative or driven by opinions.  It is to seek in faith with th

The King Follett Discourse-As Man Now is God Once Was

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was founded in 1830.  In 1820 14-year-old Joseph Smith declared that in search of the truth about God, he prayed in a secluded grove.  He testified in an article describing his experience in 1832 that God the Father and Jesus Christ appeared to him in answer to that prayer.  Since that day additional claims of visitations from angels, including one that showed him where an ancient record was stored and that he would translate.   The Book of Mormon came forth as another testament of Jesus Christ. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was established in 1830. For the next fourteen years until 1844, he revealed doctrines that had been lost to Christendom after the death of Jesus and his apostles. He was God's prophet to restore authority to act in God's name and reestablish the Savior's church in preparation for the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. On April 7, 1844, a few months before he was murdered he spoke in conjunct

Why did Jesus Have to Die?

Who among the inhabitants of earth seeks eternal life?  People spend billions on processes and pills to prolong their mortal life. To what end we might ask?  How can the life and death of a single person in the history of the world proclaim to offer desire a desire common to the human race? Are there sufficient reasons to believe that he lived and died as the scriptures record? Even time and history are measure by reference to his birth and death and yet his name is often used with consummate disrespect among those who give him little or no heed. Questions We May Wonder About If God the Father is all-powerful why couldn't he through his omnipotence waive or forgive the effects of sin.  Why the need for an offering, sacrifice or atonement? Why couldn't he conquer death and sin by merely speaking? Traditional Christian theologians and religious philosophers through the ages have claimed that God created everything by speaking. Why not solve the issues of sin and death by such
