Why I Believe in the Gospel of Jesus Christ

Posted by Charlie Brown https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSYXazX5NP0 Two significant events have played a profound role in my observations about life and learning from the experiences we undergo as human beings.  Adding these to the mix of everyday observation and learning they have been driving factors in my desire to understand life's purposes and perplexities.   What they have taught me is that you don't have to be a theologian or have a perfect understanding of who God is to get answers to prayer.  Who will ever have such understanding in this life any way?  A sincere desire to know Him however and seeking with real intent will hasten answers to prayer.   John 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. When I was eight years old, my mother died in an automobile crash.  Of course, the circumstances were tragic. These types of things, however, happen every day to so...

The Fall of Adam and Eve-What was the Purpose of Garden of Eden?

Before the Fall of Adam and Eve came about, there were only two immortal beings. Instilled in their bodies was the power of endless creation but they couldn't use it. They were innocent and not able to comprehend the nature of their bodies and how it was that they were supposed to "multiply and replenish the earth." The resurrection would not be much of a miracle if there were no death. But there is death and there must be a reason for it in God's great plan. Did God just stop whatever it was he had been doing and then create endless planets and galaxies just to cause a solitary planet to be inhabited by human beings out of curiosity? What was the reasoning behind the creation and the fall? Was it part of a greater divine eternal plan or simply an experiment based on some whim that occurred to an all-powerful being. Would such a being even be inclined to act on a whim? Orthodox theological scholars would say no, yet that is exactly what they believe. ...

A Quick Review of Religious History and Philosophy

The great question of religion is whether or not there is a God and thus a heaven and whether or not there is some process of salvation. How did the concepts developed by religious philosophers, Biblical scholars and those that have professed Christianity in some form or another come to be? The Bible tells us that Christ and his apostles established a church in the earth. This was the authoritative body to establish God's will and proclaim to the people. After Christ and the apostles died men began to formulate their own theology and administer a church after their own methodology. History tells us that there was much disagreement as Constantine the emperor of Rome sought to unify Christians by formulating foundational creeds for their beliefs. This happened after the apostles died and men were making up their own philosophical theologies. This was 325 years or so after the birth of Christ. The historical and scriptural accounts that were available were canonized and close...

We Are All Creators If We Choose To Be

We each create a world in a world. Think of the earth as a universe and each person as a creator with all of the resources of the earth as opportunities and materials to use. Each person is pretty much free, albeit with some exceptions. With these resources and the economy that exists, each creator can act with faith to make something of their existence. Many do end up supporting others in various ways. No person is an island.  Not only in families as parents and children but many enterprises interacting with each other to facilitate, provide or to teach. Some creators choose to do very little with their existence or even nothing positive in some cases. Rules exist that we have joined together to create so as to govern and punish those among us that would steal our creations or infringe on our right to create. Some rules or laws exist all by themselves as natural facts that govern our existence. Sometimes we join together to create worlds (lives) that are closely tied together...

Pre-mortal Life; Where did We Come From?

What is the nature of of the soul of mankind?  What is this mysterious union of flesh and spirit that gives us our mortal life?   Are we nothing more than complex electro-chemical organisms or is our body of divine design housing temporarily an eternal spirit child of God? Think of the billions and billions of people that have lived on the earth, that now live and will yet be born. Where did our spirit come from?  Is our existence here for the purpose of taking a step towards an eternal and divine destiny to become like our Eternal Father or are we mere creatures placed on earth because some mysterious presence in the universe became tired of being alone up to a point in eternity about 6000 years ago? What are the existing doctrines of mainstream Christian theology and why is Mormon theology on the nature of our spirit so unique.  This is my own opinion as to how they are taught in the religious communities based on study of the various theologies put fo...

Eternal Truth and Endless Creation

When I think of some ways to consider the wonders of creation, the great truth or law of the universe that comes to my mind is the "Law of the Harvest." This comprises the fact that there is a pattern in creation and that without the seeds of creation there would be no harvest. A seed must be planted. Seeds aren't created out of nothing. Something must be self existing in some manner or else its presence is transitory and without value. How do philosophers and other rational thinkers start their contemplation. Why us? Why now? Why here? They are in a constant search for purpose. Shouldn't we ponder the existence of all things. This is the study of theology. Science confirms the law of the harvest in the earth.  Our very lives depend on understanding it.  We use it to feed ourselves. Its application requires faith both here and now and in the realms of things we don't see. Surely God does not want us to remain in the dark about who he is. As I have tho...

Faith Paradigms and The Search for Truth

Observing humanity in general it would seem that we live in an era almost closed to eternal perspective.  Desensitized by comfort and ease, much of society ignores the vast reality of our position as a planet in the endless cosmos.   To gain even a small perspective we could look at earth as a ping pong ball and space as the ocean.  In a comparison to reality though we are smaller than a ping pong ball and space is larger than the ocean.  We are either a planet lost in space or a part of a great creator's plan. If we fail to recognize that an opportunity for spiritual discovery exists or close our mind it is not God's fault we don't find truth. The night time skies and the vast array of stars in an endless cosmos is seldom viewed with an eye of wonder.   We hurry from one sensory experience to the next feeling only the pleasure or pain of the moment.   As a young man in high school I would spend summers backpacking in the mountains. The clear starr...
